Reliant Dog Show 07/18/09

Whew what a fun event . The big dogshow for the year was in Houston from 07/16 - 07/19. I hadn't been in probably 5 yrs so decided that it was time I went back to visit.

I was good and really didn't spend any $$ (well except on donations lol). I found parking to be pretty steep $8 and had to walk for quite a while to get to the building since there were a lot of people there. Ticket to go in was $10, which wasn't too bad considering how big the event was. I did end up spending $3.75 on a small bottle of water sigh.

There were soo many booth set up with all kinds of fun stuff, food, leashes, jewelery, cloths, etc etc etc! Not to mention a bunch of rescue groups. There was weightpulling which was fun. I got to see a couple of rotties as well as other big breeds pull. There was lots of confirmations going on. I didn't stay long to watch them since there was so much else going on. I didn't get to see the rotties since they were scheduled at 8am yikes lol.

I did get to meet so many great dogs and fun people. So going to share some pics. They aren't the best since Im just figuring out how to use my new camera phone.

First off I went and stopped by Dachshund Rescue of Houston where I met up with Mona and her Mama.

See pic of Mona and me. She was manning the kissing booth. $1 a kiss and she was very generous with them.

Mona hanging out in the kissing booth. Isn't she cute in her summer cut?

Isn't he cute just hanging out? Sorry can't remember his name but by this time he was so tired he kept falling asleep like that lol.

This is Bandit. I totally love his marking. Soooo cute and another sweetie.

This is one tired pupper LOL.

I think this is Poppy. And if it is I think she might be getting a forever home if her application goes thru :)

Next stop was Basset Buddies Rescue of Texas. I just had to stop by and say hi. Made me miss Fred my ex's basset.

I just loved her costume and had to take a pic of her and 2 of the bassets!

Now up is Texas Alaskan Malamute Rescue This was one of my favorite stops. The people were super nice and I totally fell in love with the dogs. Made me totally miss having a big dog.

This Malamute wasn't up for adoption but totally sweet. I just wanted to kidnap him (I think it was a male lol)

Another total cutie! I so wanted to walk off with one of them :)

While walking around I saw these cute yorkies all dressed up and totally cute. There were a lot of small dogs all dressed up to party.

Another fun rescue is Texas Gulf Coast Bull Terrier Club Rescue I love bull terrier.

This cutie is Grandma. Isn't she adorable.

This is Sugar. She was nothing but skin and bones when she came into rescue. Now she has a great forever home and as you can tell, she has filled in nicely.

Had to stop by Friends of Rescued Mastiffs Just love this big dogs.

This was actually the pic that made me stop and look LOL. She was totally comfy there on that chair.

Another cutie!

And last but on least especially for my sister :) Lone Star Bernese Mountain Dogs

They are such beautiful and sweet dogs. Not great for Houston weather, but fun to see them!

She is a therapy dog and loving getting all kinds of attention!

This was a day. 3 hrs later I was totally exhausted and happy to go home to my girls. I'm definitely going back next year. Hope you enjoyed the pics :)

You haven't blogged in a while, but it was totally worth the wait!

Love all the pics. What a fun time. I wish I'd been there with you! It looks like a totally fab time.

I, too, love the Bernese Mountain dogs. The one thing I didn't like though is I heard they had a shorter life expectancy from someone who has had four of them (and mentioned that was the downside of the breed) and so crossed them off my list because of that.

Thanks Woodrow and Co :) It really was a good show, so much better than it was 5 yrs ago the last time I went. I love how the bullies kept smiling when I petted them :)

Thanks Melissa, yeah been a while since I didn't have anything interesting to add but this was worth it.

Yes that is the big down size to Bernese, Bonzo ours live until he was 11 so that is great, But I've know quite a few that died at 6 yrs old and that is sooo hard to watch.

Thanks Al, it really was a great event. There was a section with tricks being done but I got sidetracked checking out all the dogs lol :)

Thanks Dru, so many of the dogs were just so happy to be there and see so many people. It made the experience very good.

Love the new apt :) Everything is unpacked and in its place and my girls are happy and settled. Letting my back heal up then going to work hard at loosing weight :)

Thanks Anne-Kathrine for featuring our beautiful Malamutes!! The white/black one was Kamea (yes, a boy) and the other one was Kaya!! Both great Mals owned by great families!! Anytime you want to adopt one, just let us know!! I'm sure we can find one for you!! LOL!! Glad you were also able to watch some of our weight pull event! The winners (Am. Staffordshire Terriers) pulled 3000 lbs!! Amazing!! Thanks again!!

Thanks Kim. It was a pleasure meeting everyone and I totally loved Kamea and Kaya. I stayed quite a while there talking and loving on both of them. I'll def keep Malamutes on my list of prospective dogs as my next dog.

Oh that is so cool about the Staffie. I didn't stay long enough to watch the most of it because there was so much to see. But next year I'll make sure to come early.

So cute! I love doxies (if I ever got a little dog, it would be a long-haired doxie) and mastiffs are AWESOME. Yes, I am a study in contrasts...

Thanks for all the pictures :-)
