Nanuchy - update

I dropped Nanuchy off at the vets this morning for her ultrasound and urine culture. I just got off the phone with Nanuchy's vet. It's official she is in kidney failure, sigh. Because her kidneys aren't working well, the toxins are getting into her system which is why she is throwing up. And also which accounts for her drinking so much water. Her vet wants to try a few things out to keep her quality of life good and was happy to hear that her quality of life is the most important thing to me and that I will let her go when these things don't work anymore, but without going to extremes.

So she is going to be on Pepto once a day. If she keeps throwing up then he will prescribe something stronger. She is also going to be on prescription canned food specifically for her kidneys to help them out. Lastly she will be on meds to help with the leaking. He sent out her urine culture and is pretty sure it will show signs of additional issues that are related to her kidneys and might prescribe some meds for that too.

At this point her heart murmur is the least of her problems lol. The liver levels aren't horrible yet and less worrisome than her kidney levels.

So hopefully with all this I'll have some good quality time with her left. I love her too much to let her suffer. At least that hard decision is going to wait for another day. Feeling relieved, just hope this works.

Thanks everyone for your prayers!

Anne-Katherine, I know how you feel right now, and giving quality time to Nanuchy will make her feel more loved. I hope she will feel better soon.

We are sorry to read your post but we know you will do what is right for Nanuchy.
Hopefully with a change of diet and the right meds you will have some extra time.
Our dog before Harry, Petra went into kidney failure and carried on for some time.
She hated the tinned food and finally we settled on a home made version!
Mainly pasta and chicken or fish - low salt, low protein I think it is.
Keep us updated - sending virtual hugs to you and Nanuchy xxx

Thanks Brandy. Nanuchy is back at the vets today. She had diarrhea all night long. She has lost another lb since Friday. She is hardly eating anything anymore. Unless we can get this under control soon Im going to have to let her go.

Thanks Al, quality of life is the most important. She isn't doing well and even had to have a bath this morning due to all the diarrhea.

Thanks Mack, I really appreciate it. I've been very lucky to have so many wonderful pets in my life no matter how challenging they are lol.

Thanks Martha and Bailey. She isn't eating much of anything at this point. There is only 1 canned food she will touch, she wont even eat the food I was cooking for her anymore.

Thanks Woodrow, Sweetie and Sherman. I thought we were making a bit of progress but unfortunately she has gotten a lot worse.

Dear friend,

I am so sorry to hear this news. Samantha had renal failure and I was giving her IV fluids twice a day for 6 months. As long as she was willing to fight, I keep trying. When it was time she let me know but it was the hardest thing I have ever had to do but I couldn't watch her suffer. I had her for 14 1/2 ywars and i pray I have Mona just as long.

Please let me know if yopu need anything.

Love Sarah & Mona

Thanks Melissa. She just got so bad so fast. She is on 3 meds to help with the diarrhea, 2 which I shoved down her throat since she isn't eating much. The last one is a powder and well she is only getting part of it since she isn't eating too much of her food sigh.

Thanks Sarah & Mona. My cat Tux was in kidney failure and I had to let him go less than a month after diagnosis. I had a feeling when the vet mentioned kidney issues that this was the case. Hopefully I'll have her longer than I had Tux.

Thanks OP Pack. It has been hard seeing my old girl like this. Today she actually at most of her breakfast which is a first in 3 weeks. So hopefully a combination of all we are doing will keep her happy for quite a while.

Thanks for adding me to your blog reader :) Love reading your posts!
