Happy Birthday Sonja (06/20/09)

I meant to post this on Friday. On Saturday Sonja turned 10 yrs old. She has come a long way in the last 6 yrs especially the last 3. As sweet as she is, she really isn't too bright lol. A lot of the time you look into her eyes and I swear her brain is out to lunch LOL.

Sonja's full name is Loenvar's Enchantress. We all think she was misnamed lol. My late ex-MIL got her from Kismet Kennels 6 yrs ago. Sonja was 4 yrs old at the time. I guess the breeder finally realized that there was no way that Sonja was going to get her championship since she hated all the crowds. My late ex-MIL had adopted Sandi from there the year before. Sonja is completely different from Sandi in every way. Sandi loved being the center of attention and got her championship fast.

Sonja is a sweet girl who probably would never have turned into the very insecure girl that she is if she had been placed in a home when she was a baby. Any noise would send her running. Everyone had to stand still while she ate or once again she would go running. After my late ex-MIL passed away things were very much up in the air for the girls. Soon after that I filed for divorce as well. My ex decided to move into her place and had his dog and the girls there. Which wasn't a good situation. Sonja reverted to having many more issues and would chew on the furniture and forget she was housebroken.

I got both girls soon after that. I still was in the townhouse and had Patachou (rottie), Nanuchy (terroX), Patches & Pirata (cats) and a couple of fishtanks. It took almost 2 yrs to settle Sonja down to where I could trust her to not chew up the furniture and to not have accidents in the house anymore. 6 months after the girls moved in with me full time Patachou got cancer and we went thru a 5 1/2 month battle on that front. Thank god the divorce was finalized before he passed.

A year later I was finally able to sell the townhouse and we moved into my apt. The girls settled down and everyone especially Sonja was happy and healthy. No more accidents, no chewing. I was so proud of my little girl that she finally seemed to get it.

This is where Sonja sleeps at night in her own doggy bed next to my bed.
Unfortunately I had to let Sandi go on 12/31/08 (7 months of bliss lol) and Sonja immediatedly reverted to all her old behavior. Constantly pacing and whining, running into Nanuchy (which resulted in fights), chewing on furniture, peeing in the hallway. I know she was mourning Sandi since Sandi was her cousin and her only true friend. Thank god this only lasted 6 weeks. I was getting so desperate I just didn't know if I could take it anymore, when all of a sudden she got better. She hasn't had an accident inside since and is pretty happy. Haven't had to deal with any fights between Nanuchy and Sonja in a while and it really is nice.

Well I'm so happy that Sonja has finally found some kind of balance in her life that makes her happy. She knows that she has a home with me for life (eventhough I do threaten to send her to live with my ex when she misbehaves lol). I wished I had more recent pics that are good of her since she is just beautiful but my camera is on strike and have to wait a while to get another one lol.
Happy birthday Sonja, mama luves you :)

Thanks Martha and Bailey. It has been a long road and at times I've really resented having her. But I got over that and that is when she started to settle down. She really really wants to please.

I just found your blog after googling Loenvar's Enchantress as she is my dog's mother. Boy do they look alike! Email me if you want to see my Annie's picture.
